| NGO Outreach |
Domesteq is currently working with several NGO’s on projects designed to increase employability amongst the semi-literate and illiterate living on the fringes of our society. Domesteq is a social enterprise and it is our conviction that the current need for domestic workers can be filled by working within the poor communities and villages to increase the level of acceptance for domestic work and their understanding of the sector. We are partnering with NGO’s working in these same communities to provide training and job placement. Through our village outreach programme, our field workers develop ties with many of the villages in and around Delhi, Noida and Gurgaon and by gaining their trust are able to encourage those without jobs to attend our training classes. Since our outreach programme began, we have found that people are keen to register with Domesteq as they have come to appreciate our ability to provide access to jobs in all types of homes where dignity of labour, minimum wage and a safe working environment are guaranteed.
We recently teamed up with World Vision to train a community of rag-pickers for Novice Domestic Work. These individuals had no previous formal training but came ready to listen, experience and improve their personal situations. Our trainers found them able students, keen to learn and ready for growth. Once training is complete we place the participants in homes that are open to partnering with us so that training can continue while the worker is able to earn a living wage.
HelpAge India has commissioned Domesteq to create a curriculum for Eldercare Workers in the home. This exciting and innovative project is the first of its kind and once complete, will provide much-need training for domestic workers looking after elderly family members.
